Streetwear tees are rife with images that often refer back to some sort of musical inspiration. It’s no secret that this has been one of the formulas brands have used over the years. For spring/summer 2013 Carhartt WIP has dug deep and comes full circle as it hits the state of its parent company Carhartt for inspiration on its latest collection. The streetwear off-shoot pays tribute to Motor City’s musical greats in a series of tees dubbed “Sounds of Detroit.”

The one great thing about brands exposing past musical acts is that fans get put on to music they  never heard of before. Included in this collection are tees featuring albums with the works of Dennis Coffey, Hasting Street Jazz Experience, Cybotron and the Lyman Woodard Organisation. This is just the first installment in the series so get familiar with these artists before the next one drops. There are four T-shirts available now on the Carhartt WIP website.
