Who Invented It: Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis
Year Introduced: 1890

Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis patented what would become the first jeans in 1873. In 1890, their patent was set to run out, meaning other companies could make jeans too. Levi's dubbed their iconic fit the 501, with the number "5" designated for products made with the highest-quality materials possible. The trucker jackets would be "506," and so on. Although the first model of 501s were slightly different, such as only having one back pocket and cinch-back details, the same attention-to-detail still applies today.
