Architect Zhou Qi designed the building for the Beijing headquarters of the Chinese national newspaper, The People’s Daily. However rather than inspiring people with its architecture, it grabbed headlines because of its phallic shape. And c'mon, it really does look like a meat thermometer.

The Chinese government has responded to the controversy over the beef bayonet-shaped building with censorship. All search queries of “People’s Daily” and “building” on the Chinese social media site Weibo yield the following message: “In accordance with relevant laws, regulations and policies, search results cannot be displayed." It should also be known that the People’s Daily happens to be the official paper of the government’s ruling party. Oh the irony.
