New York native and fine artist Peter Halley recently collaborated with Milan-based architect/designer Alessandro Mendini at New York's Mary Boone Gallery. Halley created nine minimalist paintings for the exhibition, while Mendini designed the exhibition space—a 3-meter-wide repeating geometric and minimalist mural. Each of Halley's pieces include his famous cell and prison-inspired imagery; however, Mendini's choice in color and design adds a far more playful aspect.
For a while now, Halley has been interested in the ways in which architecture and art interact. He invited Mendini, a trained architect, to design the repeating wall mural and conceptualize the space. Each artists' work includes and accentuates the other in an unlikely yet suprisingly pleasant way. Check it out if you're in NYC until June 29.
