Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) is offering two new apps to supplement their traveling showRomare Bearden: A Black Odyssey. The first of the pair of apps, available for both iOS and Android, is an audio tour meant to engage visitors with 20 stops detailing the works of Romare Bearden and Homer’s The Odyssey. Some of the voices offering guidance is Zora Neale Hurston, author of Their Eyes Were Watching God, and famed jazz musician Branford Marsalis.
The second app entitled Romare Bearden: Black Odyssey Remixes, users will actually be able engage in Bearden's works by allowing visitors to remix collages from Bearden's original series. You can also add personal photos, resize elements, and personalize works with words. The images can be saved and posted to a public gallery that's taggable, allowing you to put your own mark on the exhibit.
