The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) have announced plans to demolish the American Folk Art Museum. The building was bought by MoMa in 2011 and stood to the right of the MoMA for 12 years. The Wall Street Journalsays MoMA officials blame the smaller museum's opaque exterior and flooring. They say the American Folk Art Museum's design didn't match MoMA. In the future, it is planned to use the Folk Art building's space as a mixed-use tower and bridge it to MoMA.

Recently the Metropolitan Museum of Art gained a large Cubism collection and now poses real competition to MoMA.
