Intense athletes and intense intellectuals are sometimes kept in separate arenas; however, with Chess Boxing, the strong in mind and body now have a real place to compete in. Photographer Laura Pannack shows us a whole new world with her photographs of the intriguing and relatively new sport. Athletes must complete six rounds of chess and five rounds of fighting. Through these cycles, Pannack has collected incredibly raw and honest work with excellent and unusual compositions. We commend Pannack for showing us the shadows that seem to slip away within the crevices of our society.
