Selfridges department store in London announced their No-Noise campaign earlier this month, which includes de-branding famous logos and creating calm retail and relaxation environments. The Silence Room, developed in 1909 by Gordon Selfridge, was recently completed by Alex Cochrane Architects as a place for shoppers to escape the hustle and bustle of shopping. As you can tell from the photographs, it has a zen-like, natural interior with minimal furnishing and lighting. In the words of Cochrane, "Our take from the beginning was that there was always going to be background noise and we really wanted to create a room that people can feel silent in regardless of that."
