Cai Guo-Qiang's work with gunpowder and other pyrotechnics never fails to amaze us. His Sky Ladder exhibition at MOCA last April demonstrated the lengths he's willing to go in his explorations of explosion. The video below shows his latest work using a Christmas tree outside the Smithsonian's Freer Gallery in Washington, D.C. The first explosion lasted only 1.5 seconds, and while it may not seem grand or momentous, it's a nice application of his work to a holiday icon.
