Zaha Hadid won praise (and a Stirling Prize from the Royal Institute of British Architects) for her Evelyn Grace Academy (above), a school in South London. The brilliant building in Brixton, sadly, is now last of a dying breed. The UK government has placed firm restrictions on future school design—claiming standardized structures will cut costs. 261 schools are planned across the country. Creative space, we'd argue, lends to creative education and the right type of thinking.
Might it have been better to stipulate inventive use of cheaper sustainable materials rather than outright ban excitement?
