Rotterdam-based MVRDV just completed the "Book Mountain + Library Quarter" in Spijkenisse, Netherlands. The 9,300-square-meter mountain of books and bookshelves is surrounded by glass casing and a pyramidal roof, and yes, despite the height, these books are accessible. If you look closely, there are corridors with platforms and stairs to allow visitors to browse the tiers of shelves. The book mountain leads to a reading room and café with panoramic views.
