Last night's big GQ x Gap Best New Menswear Designers in America party was a pretty star studded menswear blowout. Everything was incredibly on point other than a flash flooded venue and the subsequent West Nile/dysentery I probably came home with. This year's Best New Menswear Designers in America class is probably the best yet thanks to up and comers like Ian Velardi who GET IT. I've been singing the praises of Ian for what feels like forever and I am not sure my tune is ever going to change. He knows how to toe the line between conceptual clothing rife with themes and clothing that real, actual guys (dudes?) want to wear. That's a statement that's really fucking easy to write, but really fucking hard to execute. This video is great for those both familiar and unfamiliar with Ian alike. See him work out of his bedroom (not because he wants too, asshole), talk a little bit about why Gap and GQ are special to him and, ultimately, do a bunch of the things that a Best New Menswear Designer in America has to do leading up to the collaboration's big launch. Hey Ian, I think it's safe to say your mom is probably pretty proud of you.
