Photographer James Ostrer uses Neo Baroque painterly techniques within his atmospheric photographs of the San Francisco Ballet’s principal dancer, Maria Kochetkova, for the series titled "The Romance of Perfection." Ostrer made Kocketkova a muse through admiring her obsession with perfection and her quirky fashion sense. In James' words, "There is a containment of physical pain and control in ballet which is tightly interwoven with its grace and beauty. I wanted to suggest this through the images of birdcages and her being bound by vintage ribbons.”
