Based in Los Angeles, Shawn Barber straddles two artistic worlds—tattooing and painting. His success comes in a genuine portrayal of the art, craft, and passion of body marking. He paints friends and comrades, sometimes focusing on faces or hands and other times detailing working habits. Each piece has a strength in honesty and a power of true personality.

His new show, Memoir: The Tattooed Portrait Series, opened yesterday at Joshua Liner Gallery. Don Ed Hardy, Kim Saigh, Stanley Moskowitz, Grime, Henry Lewis, and Adrian Lee are all represented in the paintings. Some of the coolest inclusions are a small series on tattoo machines. Don't miss it.

Memoir: The Tattooed Portrait Series runs through July 28, 2012.
