The 2012 CFDA Fashion Awards are upon us. June 4th marks America's biggest night in fashion and while that may not seem interesting to some of you, menswear plays a pivotal role in the event's festivities so now's as good of a time as any to get familiar. The CFDA presents awards in two menswear design focused categories - the coveted Menswear Designer of The Year Award and the Swarovski Award for Menswear. Using The Academy Awards for analogy purposes, since The CFDA Awards are often refereed to as The Oscars of fashion, think of Menswear Designer of The Year as Best Actor and the Swarovski Award, which recognizes emerging talent in menswear, as Best Supporting Actor. It's a pretty big deal and an even bigger honor to the fortunate nominees.
Last year saw Michael Bastian finally take home the top prize as Menswear Designer of The Year after being nominated by the CFDA 4 years in a row. On the emerging talent front, Robert Geller left with the Swarovski Award. This year's list of nominees features a few familiar faces for the menswear faithful and some new names looking to make their mark. Who will be this year's Bastian and Geller? You'll be able to read roughly 1,000 blog posts and tweets about it as soon as the results go live or, if you have some self control, you can watch everything June 5th when the CFDA Awards will be broadcast online for the first time ever.
