Pioneering tattoo artist Horiyoshi III was one of the first in Japan to use an electric needle. His work mixed new and old techniques, refining traditional subject matter while preserving typical images and Japanese mythology. In his first exhibition in London, Kokoro: The Art Of Horiyoshi III hosted by Somerset House, the artist shares richly painted silks and a number of tattoo instruments. Painting subjects include dragons, koi fish, and the white phoenix. All, of course, are lovingly depicted.
The show runs through June 1, 2012. [Sang Bleu]
