Problem Painting

The work of Urs Fischer.

New York based Swiss artist, Urs Fischer, was frustrated that so much visual creativity that happens on screens never gains any real dimensionality when printed. So, he decided to take a look at “flatness” by silk-screening objects, like bolts and fruits, on top of colored-in publicity head-shots to highlight the images’ lack of dimension. The comparison between the random objects and the people they are obscuring also adds humor to the pieces. [UrsFischer]
