Pacific Northwest-born Deedee Cheriel grew up skateboarding and playing with in bands. Eventually, she gravitated to art pulling from those two influences and her Native Indian heritage. The resulting aesthetic "demonstrates a powerful tension between the design elements of stripes, patters, and color fields, with lyrical illustration," in the words of Shepard Fairey.

Now living in LA, Cheriel is the latest artist to participate in the Downtown Standard Hotel's 6th Street Mural program. Her mural speaks to Fairey's assessment of the work and will be on view through May 1, 2012.
