Preview: George Boorujy "Blood Memory" At P.P.O.W

Naturalist painter forces reckoning with animal kingdom.

Iconic North American animals are the subject of naturalist painter George Boorujy's second solo exhibition at P.P.O.W. The New York gallery brings all new work by the Brooklyn-based artist, who steps away from strict scientific depiction to imbue his animals with human characteristic. It is a reckoning with nature that Boorujy presents, a reminder of man's place in the animal kingdom. His animal portraits are striking in detail and, at times, surreal in their emotional pull.

Blood Memory opens on March 15 and runs through April 14, 2012.
