The Plateau Lounge chair, from Danish designer Erik Magnussen, takes a new twist on the classic Danish-Modernist styling of Arne Jacobsen’s egg chair or Eero Saarinen‘s womb chair. This new design has an essential quality that its predecessors were lacking, that is, that in addition to being engulfed by the chair, it’s also designed to hold your laptop, remote control, or coffee/adult beverage (careful with this one) on the chair’s singular armrest. This flat area of the armrest is where the chair derives its name, Plateau. Obviously we won’t cite Jacobsen or Saarinen for overlooking the necessity of a place to hold your laptop or whiskey, but it does make lounging so much better. [Engelbrechts]
