Kehinde Wiley/The World Stage: Israel
Location: The Jewish Museum, 1109 5th Avenue
Preview & concert: Thursday, March 8, 8pm
Admission: $12 advance; $15 at the door
The exhibition comprises 14 of Wiley’s paintings of young Israeli men, depicted in street clothes as classical portraits against backgrounds inspired by traditional Jewish papercuts. They will be shown alongside works from the museum’s collection selected by the artist, including ornamental papercuts. Besides a chance to see it, the show’s opening event on Thursday will include performances by Ethiopian-Israeli hip-hop artist Kalkidan Mashasha and DJ Spooky.
However, if you don’t make it this week, there’s plenty of time: the exhibition runs through July 29th.
