Volume Management (2011)

Warhol created his stack of

Brillo boxes in 1964, and Arcangel takes the idea to a new level with this stack of 55-inch flat screens. Unlike the famed Brillo pile, the Vizio LCD HDTVs are actually in the boxes, waiting to become obsolete. Maybe then they'll be ready for one of Arcangel's hacking exhibits.

Masters (2011)

You are invited to putt away with this one. But be warned,

it’s modified for ultimate failure. You’ll never sink it. Archangel uses this

theme of simulation and manufactured reality driven to cultural obsession for

much of his work. 

Since U Been Gone (2011)

These prints trace the musical and genealogical

impact of Kelly Clarkson's 2004 hit “Since U Been Gone”, showcasing CD scans as art. It's a

thorough association project, try and site the parallel influences of Weezy

and Kelly. This Arcangel guy is something else.

Jay-Z Blue (2011)

While swinging us through the floor of his solo show, Cory

points out to a glossy wall and shares, “There is a color called Jay-Z Blue, and

that’s it.” 

There’s Always One At Every Party (2010)

Remember the Seinfeld episode where Kramer has an idea for a

coffee table book about coffee tables? Arcangel super-cut every scene that

mentions this meta product manifesto into a video piece at this show. Arcangel has worked like this berfore: in 2009 he spent six months editing together YouTube clips of cats to create an opus. It’s great to hear Jerry whining in

the Whitney.
