Deng’s four-year, $72 million contract with the Lakers looks to be a disaster for several reasons, primarily how poorly he played last season: Deng posted career lows in points, assists, and field-goal percentage. And that’s just the first year of a four-year deal—one that pays Deng $18 million annually, and one that won’t end until Deng is 35 years old. It’s hard to imagine Deng gaining his 2012-2013 All-Star form in his mid-30s.
Good job, Lakers.
