Carmelo Anthony Says He "Doesn't Expect to Win a Championship This Year"

If Knicks fans are looking for a vote of confidence from their star Carmelo Anthony for next season, don't hold your breath.

None

Don't expect the New York Knicks to win an NBA title next season. It's a harsh reality that Knicks fans have come to terms with already, however, this sentiment is coming from the guy that just inked a new $100+ million deal with the franchise last month. Per Raul Alzaga of PrimeraHora.comCarmelo Anthony speaks on the current state of the Knickerbockers and doesn't pull any punches.

“I do not expect to win a championship this year. That’s something that takes time and everything has to be in sync, from management to players. We have much work to do, but something that drives me. I know we can start creating the foundation of what we do. It’s the start of a good process, “said Anthony. “Next year we will have enough money to spend within the salary cap. But this year it is important to take the necessary steps towards those who will in the next year. I want to concentrate on building what we want from this year."

Obviously, you can take this quote one of two ways. You can see Anthony looking at the bigger picture which includes taking your lumps next season before (hopefully) vastly improving the roster in an effort to make a big playoff push the following year. Or, you can see it as Melo simply not being optimistic enough in the Knicks' chances. We'll go with the former. What do you think about Anthony's comments?
