Central Michigan forward John Simons had a brush with death today as he stood out of bounds following a dunk by the opposition.

Northern Illinois University's Pete Rakocevic had just thrown down a rim-rattler, and Simons readied himself to inbounds the ball to a teammate and head the other way. The basket had other ideas, and as soon as Rakocevic let go of the rim, it began to collapse. The backboard was closing in on Simons' head, and he had no clue. Serious pain was imminent.

Somehow, Simons inbounds the ball, notices the basket speeding right for his skull and ducks out of the way at literally the last possible millisecond, and avoids any injury.

This could have gone much, much worse.
