Two rival Libyan militias have been fighting with each other since Sunday for control of the Tripoli Airport. This afternoon a plane was hit with a rocket intended for a control tower (which was also hit eventually). Luckily, no one was in the plane at the time, but that hasn't stopped casualties from racking up. Nine people have died and another 25 have been wounded in the battle, according to CNN.
The Zintan militia has controlled the airport since Moammar Gadhaf was overthrown in 2011, and this battle is just another incidence of a rival militia trying to take it over. Libya's current government is less powerful than the country's several militias, so all it can do is plead for "calm" as the fighting continues.
The airport has been officially closed until July 17.
