Paul George obviously has a tough recovery route following his devastating, hard-to-watch leg injury from last night. But Miami Dolphins receiver Brian Hartline also suffered a open tibia-fibula fracture in high school and says he came back even stronger.
"I was reading everybody saying 'Ah, his career might be over.' His career is not anywhere near over," Hartline said to ESPN after the Dolphins Saturday scrimmage. "He'll be fine. He's a freak athlete. He'll do awesome, he'll work hard. That's my perspective."
Of his own injury Hartline said: "Bones typically, when they break, they heal stronger. They calcify, they get even thicker and they become even stronger. So, to me, I felt like I got faster afterwards, because you do so much ankle mobility, so much calf work, you do so much strengthening that you usually don't do and take for granted. You go from being on top, to ground zero and you just rebuild back up. I feel like you get stronger."
While this isn't exactly a guarantee for George's complete recovery, it's a welcomed dose of optimism. Much like watching the injury, we can't stomach the thought of George never being the same player again.
