As you may or may not have heard (probably may) Tom Brady is currently slated to serve a four-game suspension for his role in DeflateGate. Most every suspension (justified or not) is appealed, and this one will be no different. Brady's agent already stated as much earlier in the week, and the players union went forth and filed their formal appeal today.
But in a surprisingly odd development, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has personally appointed himself as the arbitrator of this case. The league released a statement to NFL writer Mike Freeman, saying:
"Commissioner Goodell will hear the appeal of Tom Brady's suspension in accordance with the process agreed upon with the NFL Players Association in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement."
As we stated in the first paragraph, the union filed their appeal, and also asked for "a neutral arbitrator" to be appointed due to the NFL's "history of inconsistency and arbitrary decisions in disciplinary matters." Yeah, looks like the Shield is going with the exact opposite on this one.
We shall see how this plays out.
