LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball Reportedly Sign Deal With Low-Level Lithuanian Team

LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball will be on their way to Europe very shortly.

Early Monday afternoon ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that within the next day or two both LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball could sign with the Lithuanian team Prienu Vytautas...whatever that is:

Story filed to ESPN with @DraftExpress: LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball are in serious discussions to sign professional basketball deals with Lithuanian club Prienu Vytautas. Club plans to decide in next 24-to-48 hours whether to finalize an agreement with the two American teenagers.

Then, just a few hours later, it was reported that that was no longer a potential destination and was, in fact, an official one:

Sources: LaMelo and LiAngelo Ball have turned pro, signing one-year contracts with first division Lithuanian team Vytautas. They will report to the club in early January.

Wojnarowski adds that the club you'd almost certainly never heard of until now hopes to receive a marketing boon by landing the two teens and (by extension) their dad. As of this moment it appears doubtful that the brothers would log playing time in the Lithuanian (LKL) league, and instead appears probable that they'll get about 20-25 minutes per game in the less competitive Baltic (BBL) League:

The Ball brothers are not expected to see major playing time for Prienu Vytautas in the Lithuanian (LKL) league, but could be afforded an opportunity to develop in the Baltic (BBL) League, where the stakes are much lower. The club must decide whether to pull the trigger first. https://t.co/XIihTVnZMD

Also, for those wondering how their daily lives will be, Prienu Vytautuas is a "low-level club" that has financial issues and makes its home in a non-English speaking village of about 10,000 people.

Prienu Vytautas has only had one American player on their roster in the past decade, Brad Tinsley, who departed after a month of action, according to my research. The Balls would likely be faced with a major culture shock in Prienai, a small village of around 10,000 people.

It sounds like the brothers' likely coach is a bit of a cut up and (according to an American player who previously played for him) there's a chance that's not good at all:

Virginijus Seskus, coach of Prienu Vytautas, who is considering signing LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball, has been described to me as "the LaVar Ball of Lithuania". Very high energy guy apparently. Loves to get technical fouls. They'll get along great, despite him speaking no english.

He had me my rookie year for a different club there, told me through our assistant during training camp that he wouldn’t play me much because he couldn’t speak to me.

Finally, it sounds like the arena they'll play in is a far cry from Pauley Pavilion, or even whatever the hell Chino Hills High School calls the field house/gym they play their home games in:

The Ball’s to Lithuania is a disaster waiting to happen (I played there for a year and hated it). This is a picture of the teams gym that the Ball brothers would play at. Not exactly BIG BALLER material #BBB pic.twitter.com/STkQ57YRS5

According to Wojnarowski, "the team has no general manager and doesn't practice regularly due to the poor financial situation."

Sometimes you can just see a 30 for 30 piecing itself together right in front of your eyes.
