Last night during the Redskins’ 23-17 loss the Baltimore Ravens, Robert Griffin III again struggled while backup Kirk Cousins again looked like sharp. While it’s simply assumed Griffin is the starter, one respected analyst is not so sure.

Here are comments made during the broadcast night by former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann regarding the team’s quarterback situation:

“Let's stop beating around the bush. Kirk Cousins has played much better at the quarterback position than Robert Griffin III has. Now, Robert is learning to work out of a pocket. He doesn't look as smooth or as comfortable throwing the football. I mean, your eyes will tell you everything you need to know. It's going to be a decision that Jay Gruden is going to have to make.

Right now, Robert Griffin III is his quarterback. Now, if there was a quarterback competition, it wouldn't be a competition. Kirk Cousins would be the man I believe he would have to go to, because of the efficiency with which he has run (the offense). Now Kirk, like I said, is basically a drop-back quarterback. I see Andy Dalton in Cincinnati, I see Kirk Cousins that way.”

Given how Griffin has struggled, Theismann kind of has a point. If you look at the preseason numbers side by side, there’s really no comparison:

Griffin III: 13/20, 141 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 7 carries, 27 yards

Cousins: 35/54, 370 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT

So what do you think? Should RG3 be replaced?
