Marinko Matosevic lost to Roger Federer 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the first round of the 2014 U.S. Open last night. So he won't be leaving Flushing, N.Y. with a U.S. Open title this year. But he will be leaving the Open with one of the coolest memories of his professional career, courtesy of Michael Jordan.
Down 3-4 during the third set of the match, Matosevic spotted MJ sitting in Federer's box and decided that, if he was going to go down to Federer, he was going to do it while having fun. So he looked in Jordan's direction and yelled, "I just want to be like Mike!" And it didn't go unnoticed. Almost everyone in the area heard what Matosevic had to say and even MJ himself cracked up after hearing him. Play was then halted briefly while the crowd gave Matosevic and MJ a polite round of applause.
Watch Matosevic yell at MJ in the clip above. He'll never forget this moment.
