Generally speaking, it is not a good sign when an NFL quarterback is throwing up on the football field in the middle of a game. The whole QB-throwing-up-in-the-huddle thing might have looked cool in the movie Any Given Sunday (what up, Willie Beamen?) and made for a memorable Hollywood moment. But if you're an NFL shotcaller and you're throwing up on the field—remember when Donovan McNabb allegedly did it during the Super Bowl?—it's not a good sign.
Or is it?
Last night, during the Bengals/Chiefs preseason game, Cincinnati backup Matt Scott decided to do his best Willie Beamen impression and threw up not once, but twice on the field during a drive in the fourth quarter. But strangely enough, it didn't turn into a complete disaster for Scott. Because rather than losing his focus, he took a snap in the shotgun formation just a few seconds after throwing up for the second time and fired a strike down the field to wide receiver Conner Vernon for a touchdown. It was kinda gross watching him hurl all over the field. But at the same time, it was amazing to see him work his way through it and throw a TD.
Unfortunately, the Bengals ended up losing the game 41-39. But Scott is probably going to get a standing ovation in the team's film study this weekend. And he definitely deserves it.
