Tracy McGrady spent more than 16 years playing in the NBA. But unfortunately, his baseball career won't even last one.
On Wednesday afternoon, T-Mac—a pitcher for the Sugar Land Skeeters in Texas—actually started the Atlantic League All-Star Game. He even struck out the final batter that he faced in the second inning of the game, recording the first strike out of his career in the process. But a short time after the game, the former NBA star announced that he was retiring from baseball, effective immediately, after playing in just four regular-season games for the Skeeters this season.
"It has been a tremendous ride," he said. "It is my last game today. I informed the team this would be my last outing and I appreciate them giving me this opportunity to start the game and enjoy this great midsummers classic. This has been an awesome year."
Er, it actually hasn't been a year yet. Not even close. But at any rate, McGrady is ready to hang up his glove and calls it quits for good.
"I got a little emotional coming off the mound," he said. "It feels good to be celebrated again."
Good luck with whatever you do next, T-Mac.
