What's the penalty for acting like a racist prick? Apparently, 200 bucks. That's the amount of money that a hockey fan was just fined for throwing a banana at Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds—who just so happens to be black—during an NHL preseason game in September in London, Ontario. Christopher Moorhouse was officially charged with provincial trespassing early Monday morning and given 90 days to pay his massive fine (sarcastic much?) because police said there wasn't enough evidence in his case to charge him with a hate crime.
Our favorite part of this whole story, though? The fact that Moorhouse's defense was that he didn't know that throwing bananas at black athletes could be perceived as racist or hateful. SMH. That was really the best explanation you could come up with, man? So sad.
