Can We All Take a Sec to Appreciate the Fact Offset Took Cardi B to the Super Bowl for Their First Date?

Offset just revealed his first date with Cardi B took place at Super Bowl LI.

First dates are all about making a good first impression, and in the new Rolling Stone cover story on Migos, Offset revealed he made it his mission to make a great, er, make that a super first impression on Cardi B the first time they went out.

According to Offset, he actually met Cardi for the first time in early 2017 after he asked a publicist to arrange a dinner in New York City with a handful of women, including Cardi. But when it came time for Offset and Cardi to have their first 1-on-1 time, Offset decided against taking Cardi out to eat again or to a movie like most guys would. Instead, he told Rolling Stone his first date with Cardi was at… the Super Bowl? Yes, the Super Bowl.

"That’s a power move!" Offset said, stating the obvious.

It’s not exactly a secret that Offset and Cardi attended Super Bowl LI between the Patriots and the Falcons in Houston last February, because they didn’t try to hide the fact they were there together. As the game was being played, Cardi jumped on Instagram to share the moment with her followers. She said she was at the game, despite not being a big NFL fan.

"I don’t even know what the fuck is going on," Cardi said. "I do not watch football. Y’all know I’m Dominican, so y’all know I don’t watch football."

Cardi also said she was rooting for the Falcons—but not necessarily because she was there with Offset, a Falcons fan. She had a different reason for wanting Atlanta to win.

"I’m only going for the Atlanta Falcons because the motherfucking Patriot niggas supported Donald Trump," she said. "Other than that, I don’t know nothing about this shit."

Additionally, Offset jumped on Instagram for a couple minutes to show off the jewelry he wore to the game, and more importantly, to reveal he was cheering for the Falcons alongside Cardi.

Later, Offset and Cardi were also captured outside of NRG Stadium following the Falcons’ monumental collapse against Tom Brady & Co. Offset even spoke with a TMZ Sports cameraman about how he had lost $50,000 on the game (notice how Cardi was still being labeled as a "hot reality star" by TMZ Sports since her smash hit "Bodak Yellow" was still yet to be officially released).

More than a few people took to social media to point all of this out. They saw Offset and Cardi together and assumed it must be a sign they were dating.

But what most people didn’t realize at the time was that they were actually witnessing Offset and Cardi’s very first date. And can we all take a minute to examine just how amazing it is that their first date went down at the Super Bowl of all places?

For starters, it was amazing because a date at the Super Bowl is obviously not cheap, and it was especially expensive in 2017. While Super Bowl ticket prices tend to vary depending on where you want to sit, Super Bowl LI tickets were, on average, about $6,000 a pop in the weeks leading up to the big game. Ticket IQ also reported tickets were hard to come by last season compared to past years, which likely drove the price up even higher as it got closer to game time. That means Offset and Cardi’s first date probably cost more than $10,000 before they even walked in the front door at NRG Stadium.

Once they found their seats at NRG Stadium, Offset and Cardi also likely encountered another issue that made their first date both amazing and unconventional, to say the least. While most new couples usually pick a semi-quiet place to hold their first date so that they can get to know the other person, Offset and Cardi chose literally the last place you would want to be on Feb. 5, 2017 if you were looking for peace and quiet. There were more than 70,000 people at Super Bowl LI, and when you consider that both Offset and Cardi spent time on Instagram throughout the course of the night, there were likely well over 100,000 people on hand in some capacity for their first date. That’s not usually an ideal situation under normal circumstances.

But the most amazing part about Offset and Cardi's date may have been the way Offset was able to keep his composure despite the devastating loss his team suffered. As we mentioned earlier, Cardi didn’t really care who won the game since she’s not a big football fan. But as we also mentioned, Offset had $50K riding on the game, which likely made the Patriots’ epic 28-3 comeback even more painful than it already would have been for a diehard Falcons fan like him. It could have easily derailed the entire evening.

But Offset seemed to handle the loss well and didn’t let it affect his mood as he showed Cardi a good time. He even ended the night by peeling out of the parking lot in a Lamborghini with Cardi by his side, and it didn’t look like he was all that broken up about what had taken place on the field because of it.

It was a wild first date, and frankly, a sign of wild things to come for Offset and Cardi. Since that night, they’ve gotten engaged, survived a public scandal (or two), and even reached a point where Offset felt comfortable enough tattooing Cardi’s name on his neck.

But no matter how crazy things get, they’ll probably never be quite as crazy as they were when they first sat next to each other at Super Bowl LI. As far as first dates go, it was one for the record books, and it’s safe to say Offset made the first impression he was trying to make when he scooped up two tickets to the game.
