Back in February, Dr. Jack Ramsay—the legendary NBA coach and analyst who spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers back in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s—turned 89. And to honor his legacy and the NBA title that he won with the Trail Blazers in 1977, current Portland head coach Terry Stotts wore a plaid sport jacket during a game, just like Dr. Jack used to do:
It was a pretty touching tribute. However, late last week, sportswriter Peter Vecsey revealed that Dr. Jack was in hospice and that he was dealing with a serious health issue:
And unfortunately, ESPN is now reporting that Dr. Jack passed away last night:
It's obviously very sad news. And at the moment, there are a ton of sportswriters, athletes, and NBA fans tweeting out their reactions to Dr. Jack's passing on Twitter:
R.I.P. to an NBA legend. It's pretty obvious that he left his mark on the world.
