It's hard to imagine Patriots head coach Bill Belichick getting too worked up about, well, anything. Whether his team is winning or losing, playing a preseason game or the Super Bowl, the guy is pretty unflappable. It's probably why he's been able to last in the league for as long as he has.
But according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Belichick was not happy this week when several NFL owners shot down the idea of adding cameras on the sidelines and in the endzones in order to make sure that officials make the right calls. In fact, he was reportedly so angry that he cursed out several NFL decision-makers after finding out that the camera idea was off the table.
“They were in a meeting the other day with Dean Blandino, the head of the officials," Schefter said on ESPN's Olbermann, "and Bill Belichick got up there, and in profane language, told the NFL, ‘We spend money to send the Pro Bowl to Brazil, we spend money to go overseas to London, but we can’t spend money to have four cameras in the end zone, four cameras to help determine the correct call in the end zone on certain plays?’ He went off, and the way it was explained to me, from people in the room at the time, they were laughing at it because his language was so profane and because he was so incensed about it, and the NFL didn’t know how to handle it. But the bottom line is, they did not introduce the four cameras in the end zone, they thought right now it’s too cost-prohibitive for the NFL even, and they don’t know how to do it. They’ll probably continue to look at this, but Bill Belichick left these owners’ meetings not particularly happy."
It is pretty ridiculous that the NFL owners haven't cosigned the camera idea yet because of concerns about costs. The NFL is printing money at this point and owners shouldn't be worried about their bottom lines. But as of right now, it doesn't sound like the NFL is going to be getting sideline or endzone cameras anytime soon, whether Belichick likes it or not.
