Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores has been fired

The Miami Dolphins are parting ways with head coach Brian Flores after three seasons.

Flores, who previously worked under Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots from 2008 to 2018, finishes his Miami tenure with a 24-25 record.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross announced the news Monday just hours after Flores coached the team to a 33-24 win over the Patriots.

“I made a decision today to part ways with Brian Flores,” Ross said in an official statement. “After evaluating where we are as an organization and what we need going forward to improve, I determined that key dynamics of our football organization weren’t functioning at a level I want it to be and felt that this decision was in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins.”

Ross added, “I believe we have a talented young roster in place and have the opportunity to be much better in 2022. I want to thank Brian for his hard work and wish him nothing but the best in his future.”

Flores also provided the following statement to ESPN:

The news came as a shock to many, considering Flores posted back-to-back winning seasons in the past two years, winning 10 games last season and rallying the Dolphins from a 1-7 start in his third season to finish 9-8. The good news is he’s widely expected to be one of the top candidates once the next cycle of coach hiring begins.

As expected, people in the NFL world and beyond sounded off on Flores’ firing, with many criticizing the Dolphins for letting go someone who many consider to be one of the best coaches in the NFL. Check out some notable reactions below.

You’d think he’s getting another job ASAP but I’m still hoping he comes back to NE as the DC and the post-Belichick guy. He’s good. It’s not his fault Miami took Tua over Herbert. https://t.co/6g7X9QVamT

I wake up to the Dolphins firing Brian Flores after taking a 1-7 team to a winning record & back to back winning seasons with brutal offensive play. And you wonder why the franchise hasn’t won a playoff game in 20 + years… Clueless!!!

Brian Flores gets fired before Joe Judge. Someone explain it to me like I’m five.

If the guy you just fired becomes the best candidate on the market, you probably should have kept him and figured things out.

Dolphins drafted Tua ahead of Herbert and traded the Eagles a first-round pick to move up 6 spots.
But the head coach is fired.

Flo won 19 games the past two years and has gone 4-2 against Belichick.

This is wild. pic.twitter.com/aovrrKZD4y

The firing of Brian Flores is ridiculous at best and incompetent at worst.

Flores won 19 games over 2 years in Miami (the Dolphins haven’t done that since 03) with a QB that is hurt as often as he’s healthy. He finished the year going 8-1. This move is what bad franchises do.

Brian Flores getting fired is wild. Wow

Brian Flores is a great coach that’s wild.

Black coaches often talk privately about how the leash is much shorter for them than their white counterparts.
Flores is a perfect example of this.

Brian Flores was the only pats assisstant who was any good verse his old team. Got fired by the deep state for not playing nice pic.twitter.com/UyLTmyi3iQ

Brian Flores’ Miami teams were constantly improving and Flores constantly put them in a position to win despite some brutal draft selections by GM Chris Grier. I get firing one of those guys… but not Flores
