Back in April, Conor McGregor was arrested by the NYPD following his outburst in Brooklyn, where he attacked a bus during a pre-fight press event when he learned the UFC had stripped him of his featherweight title. It's since been reported that McGregor was facing up to seven years in prison, and his team was seeking a plea deal. Now, TMZ reports that McGregor is on the verge of striking his plea deal, meaning he won't face deportation or jail time.
McGregor's lawyer is reportedly in the final stages of sorting out a plea deal in his felony criminal mischief case, which was filed shortly after he threw a dolly at a bus full of UFC fighters. He was supposedly targeting Khabib Nurmagomedov, his UFC rival. When McGregor was arrested, he was charged with one count of felony criminal mischief and three counts of misdemeanor assault.
Sources close to the deal say that prosecutors have agreed to reduce the felony to a misdemeanor, which will save him from permanent deportation. He'd face up to seven years behind bars if he was convicted on the charges, but prosecutors are reportedly willing to give him probation instead of jail time. While the deal still isn't finalized, the negotiations are currently being fine tuned.
McGregor is due in a Manhattan court on Thursday. As TMZ notes, if a deal is finalized in time, it'll give UFC president Dana White the chance to make sure McGregor doesn't receive a ban from the UFC.
