According to ESPN’s Taylor Twelman, United States international and current LA Galaxy Landon Donovan is going to retire after the current MLS season. The five-time MLS Cup winner started his senior career with Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen II in 1999, and became the face of the LA Galaxy franchise after his move stateside in 2005. The 32-year-old is MLS’s all-time top scorer with 138 goals, as well as the all-time leader in goals and assists for the United States with 57 and 58, respectively. Donovan will forever be remembered for scoring in the dying moments of the USMNT’s last group match against Algeria at the 2010 World Cup, as well as his public disapproval of being left off Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad for this past World Cup in Brazil. You have to admit, dropping the mic with a winner against Bayern Munich isn’t a bad way to go out.
