Tom Brady is known as a meticulous, obsessive planner, so you had to know he'd go all out when he asked a woman to spend the rest of her life with him. Gisele Bundchen, a Brazilian model and Brady's wife since 2009, recently divulged how Brady executed a wild plan with his proposal. Bundchen shared the story in a rapid-fire, 73-question interview with Vogue, which you can watch in the video above (and which features a cameo from Brady at the 5:30 mark). Her answer begins around 6:05.
"He made up this whole story (about) how my apartment was flooding and I ran over there to try to fix the situation when I got there," Gisele recalls. "The whole apartment had candles and rose petals everywhere."
Adding to the drama of the proposal, Brady had in the 2008-09 season torn both his ACL and MCL. As a result, he'd had repeated surgeries and had battled staph infections that hindered his rehab—but he didn't let that stop him from completing the romantic gesture.
"And then he went down on his knees to propose," Gisele continued. "And I'm like, 'GET UP!' because he just had surgery and had three staph infections. I'm like, 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?'"
Brady was not to be deterred.
"I gotta go on my knees," Gisele remembered him responding. "I'm like, 'No, no! Get up, please!'"
Clearly the decision didn't hamper Brady too much. Though the Patriots lost in the ensuing Wild Card round to the Baltimore Ravens, Brady was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year.
