A Pakistan International Airlines flight has crashed in the city of Karachi.
PerCNN, flight PK 8303 was scheduled to land at 2:30 p.m. local time in Karachi after departing form Lahore. According to a Pakistan International Airlines spokesperson, however, the flight "went missing form the radar" with a mayday call ultimately being made by the pilot, citing technical issues.
The latest reports state that the plane was carrying more than 100 people. At the time of this writing, several outlets were reporting that "conflicting" information had been provided to the public regarding casualties, though Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar had been quoted as saying all those aboard the flight had been killed in the crash that's been widely reported as having occurred in a residential area.
A Pakistan International Airlines spokesperson also mentioned casualties when explaining what was currently known about the tragic crash.
"[The pilot] had been told both landing strips were available for his use but he preferred to use the go around landing route," the spokesperson said. "We are looking into the technical issue. Our prayers for the lives that have been lost."
Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan, said early Friday he was "shocked and saddened" by the crash and confirmed he was in touch Pakistan International Airlines CEO Arshad Malik.
"Immediate inquiry will be instituted," Khan said. "Prayers and condolences go to families of the deceased."
