While COVID-19 has understandably inundated with the film industry with a litany of delays and related temporary setbacks, James Gunn has assured those waiting on his next two projects that previously announced dates should hold.
On Sunday, Gunn explained in a series of tweets that both The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remain currently unaffected with regards to dates. However, Gunn was also candid about the fact that some factors—as in the sharing of official Squad images and trailers, etc.—have been "slowed" by the novel coronavirus’ impact on the industry at large.
"Right now there's no reason for The Suicide Squad release date to move," Gunn confirmed. "We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine."
Speaking later on the status of Guardians, Gunn said that now "right now" plans remain "exactly the same as they were before coronavirus."
Gunn's Squad—featuring Margot Robbie and Pete Davidson, among others—is set for release on Aug. 6, 2021. The latest Guardians, meanwhile, hasn't yet announced its official release date.
