Kawhi Leonard is the last domino to fall during this star-studded free agency—and after winning this year's Finals MVP, he's arguably the most important. As a result, the city of Toronto is beside itself trying to convince Leonard to stay.
Kawhi has already held his meetings with the Clippers and Lakers, now he's gearing up to hear the presentation of the incumbent Toronto Raptors. Although his camp has warned the teams to keep the details of their meetings under wraps, somehow information as to where and when Leonard would be meeting with Toronto got leaked to the public. Now a crowd of fans has gathered outside the rumored hotel where the meeting is taking place to give the front office an extra push.
They've also put together the NBA free agency version of a slow-speed chase by having news helicopters follow an SUV believed to contain Kawhi and his camp to the hotel.
The enthusiasm may backfire. As mentioned, Kawhi issued a strict warning to the three remaining teams not to leak any information on their presentations. ESPN's Adrian Wojarnowski took this a step further when he disclosed to Get Up that releasing this information could get them disqualified from contention.
'Teams have simply been told this: If information on your presentation gets out, you’re really imperiling your chance of signing Kawhi Leonard," Woj explained. "You understand why teams are keeping this so private. His camp has not allowed that information to really get out."
