Paris Saint-Germain and Jordan Brand just made history by announcing a partnership that sees the Parisian giants become the first football club to ever land a deal with Jordan.
The unique announcement breaks new ground for football's relationship with style, with Jordan Brand's debut collection for PSG showcasing looks that work on and off pitch. The collection includes two special edition match kits, footwear and apparel. The kits feature clean black and white colorways with red accents that will be used as the club’s third and fourth kits, exclusively in the Champions League. The goalkeeper kit comes in bold Infrared, a nod to one of Jordan Brand’s heritage colors.
The footwear and apparel collection channels the predominately black-and-white look of the kits, but also adds a strategic use of red. Additionally, each product features a unique remix of the two iconic logos, placing the Jumpman in the Paris Saint-Germain crest. Among the most hyped releases will be a PSG-inspired remix of two classic Jumpman sneakers, the Air Jordan I and the Air Jordan V.
From a cultural standpoint, Jordan Brand's link up with PSG makes absolute sense. Paris has become Jordan's home in Europe, with a flagship store opening in the city in 2016 – and in 2017, the brand announced a partnership with the French Basketball Federation. These examples show a long-standing, organic relationship between brand and city, which began with Michael Jordan’s first visit in 1985.
Speaking on the partnership, Michael Jordan said:
"Jordan Brand and Paris Saint-Germain share a distinct position in sport and style, so to partner with the club is a natural fit."
This is about to one of the hottest drops – in streetwear and sport – of the year.
The Jordan Brand x Paris Saint-Germain collection releases on September 14. The club will debut its Jordan Brand kit on September 18 during European competition.
