Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin Had an Awkward Encounter Before Preseason Game

Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin spent 3.5 seasons together with the Carolina Panthers, but it seems the former teammates aren't on the best of terms. Prior to Thursday's preseason matchup between the Panthers and Buffalo Bills, Newton and Benjamin had what looked like a rather awkward conversation.

Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin spent three-and-a-half seasons together with the Carolina Panthers, but it seems the former teammates aren't on the best of terms. Prior to Thursday's preseason matchup between the Panthers and Buffalo Bills, Newton and Benjamin had what looked like a rather awkward conversation.

Benjamin recently opened up about the early part of his career in an interview with Tim Graham of the Athletic.

"If you would’ve put me with any other quarterback (in Carolina), let's be real, you know what I’m saying?" Benjamin said. "Any other accurate quarterback like [Aaron] Rodgers or Eli Manning or Big Ben [Roethlisberger]—anybody!—quarterbacks with knowledge, that know how to place a ball and give you a better chance to catch the ball. It just felt like I wasn't in that position."

I’m just crazy then !!! I was the one who buried my mom and skip the grievance process to get back and help that team .... let be real it’s was all  fake .. and to be honest i was salty Who wouldn’t be .... I just ben holding it all in. And now I’m free. Hate me or love me ..🖐🏽

Newton appeared to confront Benjamin Thursday, but the wide receiver clearly wanted nothing to do with the conversation, walking away. Newton followed, barking after him.

The Panthers traded Benjamin to the Bills on Oct. 31, 2017, for a 2018 third-round pick and seventh-round pick. Benjamin went on to start six games with the Bills, catching 16 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown in that time. He had his best season as a pro as a rookie, in 2014, hauling in 73 balls for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns.
