The last few years have been pretty wild for UFC fighter Nick Diaz, who’s now facing domestic violence allegations.
The Bloody Elbow reported, the purported incident occurred in Las Vegas on Thursday night, where, according to authorities, Diaz was apprehended after “being combative” during the arrest. The woman Diaz allegedly choked stated that he turned violent while doing cocaine, according to TMZ Sports. After the incident, she was moved to a local hospital.
Diaz had just been officially brought back onto the UFC roster in April, after his year-long suspension for failing to report his location to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency had ended. The UFC took an active position against domestic violence in a statement on Friday, while also guaranteeing that Diaz’s case would receive due process.
“The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party,” the official company statement reads, per MMAjunkie.
The 34-year-old has been instructed to appear in court on Saturday, before being able to post his $18,000 bail. He’s also facing felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery charges.
According to The Big Lead, the last time Diaz fought was in 2015, when he lost to Anderson Silva. However, Silva’s win was later reversed after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, while Diaz tested positive for marijuana. Diaz ended up taking a 12-month suspension from the USADA for failing to take three drug tests during a year-long period.
While UFC president Dana White has expressed that he wants Diaz to return to the UFC, the domestic violence incident will likely change that attitude.
