While there's still a very big series left to play this season, the NBA coaching tracker is going into overdrive, and that means there are many, many rumors to keep track of.

According to CBS Sports, the Detroit Pistons are considering NBA on TNT's Kenny Smith for the coaching vacancy that has been opened after the exit of Stan Van Gundy. They add that Smith is in line for a job interview, and unlike with Van Gundy, the coach and team president roles will be filled separately. Ex-Cavs GM David Griffin is rumored to be someone the team is looking at to fill the latter position.

As for the coaching job, rumors of potential candidates include now-former Raptors coach Dwane Casey, Spurs assistant Becky Hammon, and ex-Pistons great Jerry Stackhouse, in addition to Smith. Casey, who led the Raptors to a No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this season, is likely the frontrunner.

Nobody said these jobs were easy to get (at least nobody with credibility).

Smith has served as a broadcaster for TNT since 1998, just a year after he wrapped up a 10-year career with the Kings, Hawks, Rockets (where he won two titles!), Pistons (for nine games!), Magic, and Nuggets.

The Detroit Pistons finished their 2017-18 season with a 39-43 record and a ninth place finish in the Eastern Conference, which could be looked at as a glass half full scenario for a franchise that has made the playoffs in two of the last 10 seasons.
