The Eric Bledsoe trade watch is finally over. On Tuesday morning, just two weeks after Bledsoe appeared to try and force the Suns to trade him by sending out a cryptic tweet, Phoenix agreed to send him to the Bucks in exchange for Greg Monroe and a first-round draft pick. The news came in the form of a Woj bomb that hit social media shortly after 10 a.m. EST.
The trade wasn’t a complete surprise, seeing as how the Suns have been pretty open about their intentions to trade Bledsoe. But that didn’t stop NBA Twitter from going nuts over the deal.
Initially, many NBA fans were shocked by how little Milwaukee had to give up to land Bledsoe. Most of them assumed the Bucks would have to part ways with a young player like Malcolm Brogdon to get the deal done.
But once that initial wave of disbelief dissipated, NBA fans moved on to thinking about how good the Bucks could potentially be with Bledsoe in the fold. They started tossing around potential starting lineups and thinking about how dominant the team could be for years to come.
Of course, not everyone was thrilled to see the Bucks luck up on Bledsoe. Fans from opposing teams, like the Cavaliers, were upset to see the Suns send Bledsoe to the Eastern Conference without getting something more in return. They also wondered why their teams didn’t try and reach similar deals for Bledsoe.
And there was even some speculation about how LeBron James’ cryptic Instagram post from Monday night may have been about the Bledsoe deal as opposed to being about Kyrie Irving like most people originally believed. LeBron and Bledsoe are very close, and the thought was that LeBron may have been pushing for Cleveland to land him in a trade. But since it didn’t happen, theories about LeBron’s IG post being about Bledsoe have started to pop up.
No matter where you stand on the Bledsoe trade, it’s clear the craziness that took place in the NBA offseason is going to extend into the regular season. We’re only about 10 games into it, and we already have LeBron subtweets, a trade that could have serious playoff implications, and so much more. Can you even imagine what might happen by the time the trade deadline rolls around? Bring on the Woj bombs.
