Did Russell Westbrook Throw Shade at Kevin Durant With This 'Adopt a Cat' T-Shirt?

Russell Westbrook is either getting really good at throwing shade at Kevin Durant—or he just really wants you to adopt a cat.

If you believe what Paul George said back in July, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are back to being "buddies" again after having a falling out following KD’s decision to leave the Thunder to team up with the Warriors last summer. According to George, Westbrook is done shading Durant with clever pre-game fits and strategically placed cupcake photos.

Or is he?

We thought that was the case. But after the Thunder beat Melbourne United in a preseason game on Sunday, Westbrook conducted an interview with reporters, and he chose to wear an interesting shirt during it. The shirt said "ADOPT A CAT" and featured a bunch of animated cats on a skateboard on the front of it.

At first glance, you might think, "So what? Maybe Westbrook just wants all of his fans to know about the plight of felines." But a few people out there dug a little deeper and discovered that Westbrook’s "cat" shirt might have been a really creative—and incredibly petty—shot at KD.

In September, KD got caught sending out tweets in defense of himself from burner social media accounts. And in two of those tweets, KD defended himself by taking a shot at his former coach Billy Donovan and by pointing out that he wasn’t going to be able to win a championship with "those cats" in Oklahoma City.

So of course, there are people who now believe Westbrook was responding to KD’s "cats" comment with his cat shirt.

Was that really Westbrook’s intention, though? He’ll probably never say. But for what it’s worth, if Westbrook were to say that he simply wore the shirt to benefit actual cats as opposed to the "cats" in OKC, he would be telling the truth. We tracked down the shirt he was wearing, and it’s a shirt that was designed by a company called Crazy Shirts to benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society. Crazy Shirts teams up with the HHS every June to celebrate National Adopt-a-Cat month, and this was the shirt they came up with this year.

If any Thunder fans out there want to wear one of these cat shirts instead of the "koward" and "cupcake" shirts they wore last year when KD visited OKC, you can cop one here. Do it for the cats.
